What happened in Beijing in June 1989 completely changed my life trajectory and made me who I am today. I went from a J-1 scholar to an immigrant, and from an agricultural geographer to an Asian Americanist/ ethnic geographer.

Most opponents of affirmative action argue that many qualified people are losing jobs and college admissions to non-qualified ethnic minorities. First, let us not forget that affirmative action also helps women of all color and that white women are one of the greatest beneficiaries of such policies

Choices
Actually, I have a lot to celebrate for the months of April and May. Besides getting this new job, my sister just got married. And then my family passed their green-card interviews, and if things work out all right, they should be on their way to the United States of America starting lives anew as immigrants before the end of 2003.

KADOMOTO'S KOMMENTS
My mom taught me how to be thorough, one of the things she used to tell me is “Sweep this room for me, do a good job; don’t sweep the square corners round.” I recall her saying this many times during my childhood days, so I have to assume that she was persistent in her effort for me to do a thorough job and in the process taught me responsibility. Thank you, Mom.
Round-Up
Grandma Watanabe and the thousands of other issei pioneers took a huge chance by traveling to a new country many years ago. The few issei who are still living must feel a great sense of pride when they see how well their yonsei and gosei offspring are doing today.
