Many of her artworks focus on human rights issues and historical events, such as the Japanese American Internment, Kristallnacht,the Relocation of the Aleuts in WWII, and the Disappeared in Central and South America. Piper Performing Arts Center - East Lecture Pod John Tateishi, former National Executive Director of the Japanese American Citizens League, spearheaded the effort to seek redress for the U.S. government’s imprisonment of Japanese Americans during WWII. He will speak on the process of gaining reparations for Japanese Americans imprisoned in camps, the constitutional issues of the internment and on public education as the driving forces of the grassroots lobbying campaign for redress. The Asian Chamber participates and co-sponsors Asian Students In Action (ASIA) and Asian Lead Academy (annual leadership conferences for teens and college age students), coordinates the bi-annual community meetings with ASU President, advocates and supports,issues that impact the Asian community.
